Temsalet practices a wholesome social enterprise model where the women employed are offered a comfortable setting for growth via training and mentorship. Experts come in to give the staff information on both soft skills and hard skills. Skills that they could use in the long run such as cooking, hospitality, business planning, communication, and leadership. The women are also fostered in sisterhood groups where they pass through stages of training in the restaurant.

The name Temsalet translates from the Amharic to mean Exemplary. And our aim is to encourage indigenous ideas, conscious eating, and exemplary humans.

Our restaurant setting located around Sar bet is inspired by ancient Ethiopian living. The tables and chairs were consciously crafted from a 130-year-old Pine tree.

The interior color schemes, as well as the furniture, are highly influenced by what one might find in their old grandmother’s house. Large wooden boxes, carvings of ancient symbols on the chairs, sand-colored curtains that cover the windows, and a traditional coffee ceremony set up in the corner are all reminiscent of what old Ethiopian homes looked like.
